Home/Learn/In-browser vs cloud
In-browser vs cloud
ProLampx Tools splits apps into two kinds. Instant apps never leave this tab. Cloud apps upload so a worker can finish a heavier job. Guest text utilities are instant too — no account required.
Instant
Merge, split, rotate, watermark, and number PDFs; convert PDF pages to JPG, Word, or Excel; edit, sign, and fill PDFs; compress, convert, resize, crop, rotate, and watermark images — these run with pdf-lib or Canvas in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers. RAM in the tab is the limit, which is why each page shows an MB cap.
Text, encode, and security utilities (case conversion, word count, JSON, Base64, URL encode, hashing, UUID and password generation) also run locally. Guests can use those without signing in.
Use instant apps when the file or text is sensitive or you want a download immediately.
Cloud
Transcription, most video tools, OCR, PDF to PowerPoint, PDF compress, and photo background removal need a server. You sign in, send the file, and follow the job on the dashboard. Email notify is optional.
Originals are deleted after processing. The download stays until it expires (typically 30 days) or you delete the job.
Cloud is the right choice when the browser cannot finish the work reliably — speech recognition, heavy video encoding, and similar tasks.
Sign-in
Guest utilities do not require an account. Cloud file apps do, so we can attach the job to your dashboard and show progress.
How-to copy and FAQs on every app page stay public so you can read them first. For retention detail, see the file retention guide.
